About this journey
Steppe and stars — a short note on what you can expect.
Twelve days in the empty east — eagle hunters, nomadic kitchens, and a sky so dark the Milky Way throws a shadow.
We've been running this trip since 2017. We know the weather, the handful of private homes that will hold a last-minute reservation, and the small change in the itinerary that makes all the difference. Every version runs differently — we design it around you.
Highlights — a short list
What you'll remember.
Four nights with a Kazakh eagle-hunter family
Ride across the steppe on their horses
A morning at a silver smith's workshop
The Gobi on the way home
The itinerary — a draft
Your days, roughly.
We treat this as a starting point — everything is rearranged around weather, your pace, and the things we find along the way.
Day 01 — 02
Ulaanbaatar
A slow day in the capital. Dinner in a new, quiet restaurant.
Day 03 — 07
Altai Mountains
A small plane to Ölgii. Four nights with the Balabanov family. The eagles. The dogs.
Day 08 — 10
The Gobi
The drive south. A night at the flaming cliffs. Another at an oasis with a single tree.
Day 11
Back to UB
A final dinner, a final drink, a long flight home.
